Sault Ste. Marie dedicates the 30th anniversary Terry Fox Run to the memory of Mayor John Rowswell

SAULT STE. MARIE - The Terry Fox Foundation invites you to participate in the 30th annual Terry Fox Run for Cancer Research.

The Terry Fox Foundation is the second largest non-government fundraiser for cancer research in Canada, and to date, a total of $400 million has been raised in Terry's name by supporters across Canada and around the world.

Terry's story of determination is an international inspiration, with the run gaining support from 29 countries world wide.

This year's run will be dedicated to a very special member of Terry's team, Mayor Rowswell, who courageously fought his own battle with cancer.

Mayor John was always a strong supporter of the Terry Fox Run; his presence will indefinitely be missed at this year's event.

There will be a dedication board at the run, where participants will be able to display the names of their loved ones who have similarly been touched by this devastating illness.

Please join us in the Marathon of Hope on Sunday September 19, 2010.

Registration for the run will be at the Roberta Bondar Pavilion from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Although pledges are strongly encouraged, there is no registration fee or minimum donation amount required to participate.

"If you've given a dollar, you are part of the Marathon of Hope."

In light of the Terry Fox Run's 30th anniversary, our goal is for each participant to obtain 30 pledges, or to encourage 30 other people to partake in the event.

Commemorative t-shirts will be available for purchase at a cost of $15 for youth sizes and $17 for adult sizes; proceeds will be donated to the cause.

The course ranges from two kilometres to 10 kilometres and participants may feel free to run, walk, cycle or roll the distance of their choice, while listening to musical hits from the ‘70s, which will be played at the Pavilion for the duration of the event.

Application and pledge forms are available online at www.terryfox.org and at all local banks and grocery stores.

We hope for your support in honouring the wishes of a true Canadian hero.

"Even if I don't finish, we need others to continue. It's got to keep going without me." -Terry Fox.
