SAULT STE. MARIE - The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) today announced that an Ontario man was arrested for undervaluing the 1936 Minett boat he attempted to import into Canada on August 18, 2011 through the Sault Ste. Marie port of entry.

Jeff Bryan Reid of Mactier, Ontario, has been charged with making false statements under paragraph 153(a) and evading compliance under paragraph 153(c) of the Customs Act.

On August 18, 2011, Reid declared that the purchase price of the boat as US$20,000.

After examining the vessel, border services officers questioned its declared value.

Further questioning and verification of paperwork, followed by an interview of the subject, determined that he actually paid US$80,000 for the vessel.
