UPDATE: Look who cut power tonight to 10,000 PUC customers

A raccoon caused Thursday night’s blackout, which lasted approximately one hour

A major outage knocked out power to nearly 10,000 customers across the city Thursday night.

The outage was reported at approximately 9:17 p.m., impacting 9,697 customers, according to the PUC's website.

It lasted approximately an hour, with power coming back on at around 10:20 p.m.

"So we found the cause of the outage," PUC later reported on its Facebook page.

"This little guy came into contact with one of our transformers. Crews found him hiding out, no doubt in shock. Crews report the outage is repaired and the raccoon is safe and sound."

Impacted neighbourhoods included the downtown core, the P Patch, Fort Creek and Hiawatha Highlands.

At 10 p.m., restaurants and other businesses along Great Northern Road were dark. At Soo Blaster, the power went out in the middle of a concert featuring Canadian rapper k-os.
