Major damage reported in West End fire

A fire caused extensive damage to a single-family residence at 113 Cathcart St early his morning. Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services dispatched five trucks to the unoccupied home around 5:30 a.m. Firefighters remained at the location for about two hours.

A fire caused extensive damage to a single-family residence at 113 Cathcart St early his morning.

Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services dispatched five trucks to the unoccupied home around 5:30 a.m.

Firefighters remained at the location for about two hours.

City police have custody of the scene and the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office has been notified.

The fire's origins are being described as "suspicious."

Another fire - also considered suspicious - damaged a vacant house right next door earlier this year.
