NHL hockey is returning to Winnipeg 15 years after the Jets departed for Phoenix.

During a news conference currently underway, league and franchise officials have confirmed that the Atlanta Thrashers have been sold (subject to approval by the NHL board of governors) and will relocate to the Manitoba capital in time for the 2011-12 season.

The new Winnipeg team (nickname to be determined) could play for at least one year in the Southeast Division before realignment moves the club into a western configuration.
