Lord of the fiddle-face

Okay, anyone can fiddle around.

But if you want to be a true star of the string-playing firmament, you have to master fiddle-face.

The demanding art of disfiguring your face like a rock guitarist was subtly demonstrated last night by some members of the virtuoso string ensemble Bowfire.

The crowd at the Kiwanis Community Theatre was enraptured by a blistering exhibition of violin, fiddle and cello playing, even a Chinese erhu.

It was the penultimate performance of this year's Algoma Fall Festival.

Tonight, Spirit of the West closes the festival with an 8 p.m. performance.

Meanwhile, you can see "Bowfire - Live in Concert" this coming Wednesday (October 29) at the Galaxy Cinema at Station Mall.
