************************* Prime Minister Stephen Harper welcomes royal visit to Canada

OTTAWA - Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced that Their Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will visit 12 cities and communities in four provinces across Canada from November 2 to November 12, 2009.

“The visit by Their Royal Highnesses is a great honour for Canadians,” said the Prime Minister. “It will allow all of us, particularly young people, an opportunity to learn more about the heritage and traditions of which we are all proud.”

The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will visit Newfoundland and Labrador, including stops in St. John’s, Cupids and Brigus.

They will spend time in Ontario, where they will take part in events in Toronto, Hamilton, Niagara-on-the Lake, Petawawa and Ottawa.

In British Columbia, they will undertake a range of engagements in Victoria and Vancouver.

They will also visit Quebec, making stops in Gatineau and Montréal.

The Prince of Wales has visited Canada 15 times, his last official visit being in 2001.

This will be the first official visit to Canada for The Duchess of Cornwall.

The 2010 visit of Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh was announced earlier this year.

The complete itinerary for the Prince and The Duchess will be announced at a later date.

The Department of Canadian Heritage is creating a website, available soon, that Canadians will be able to consult for information and details.
