Look who's new at Tourism Sault Ste. Marie

************************* Tourism/hospitality veteran joins SSMEDC; responsible for attracting meetings and conventions SAULT STE. MARIE, ON (March 15, 2011) - The Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation is pleased to welcome Jennifer King-Callon, who was recently hired as meetings and conventions coordinator with its Tourism Sault Ste. Marie division.

The position is responsible for attracting and supporting city-wide conventions and events, thereby increasing the number of visitors to the community. “Tourism Sault Ste. Marie identified meetings and conventions as a promising sector that can have a significant economic impact on our city,” said Executive Director Ian McMillan. “Given our state-of-the-art facilities, such as the Essar Centre, we’re promoting the Sault as a great place to host any type of event. Coupled with our coordinator of sports tourism, who helped attract events like the 2010 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, 2010 Finn Grand Festival and 2012 CARHA Hockey World Cup, we’ve seen some great results in the past few years, and we plan on seeing more in the years to come.” On this front, King-Callon’s knowledge will be a definite asset.

She brings more than 14 years experience in the hotel sales management field and also has a wealth of understanding in the hospitality industry and tourism promotion. “I’m confident that her competencies and attributes will allow her to excel in this position,” said McMillan. “I look forward to her joining our team.” King-Callon will officially begin her duties on March 28.
