************************* 'Typical Canadians' unite for cancer cure ride

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON - The Typically Canadian Tribute Tour cycles into Sault Ste. Marie today after completing 3,890 kilometres of an 85-day journey consisting of a grueling 8,200 km bicycle ride across Canada from Renfrew, British Columbia to St. John’s, Newfoundland.

The Team Typically Canadian group includes:

- Al Braatz: Typically Canadian Tribute Tour firefighter representative, Capt., London, Ont. Fire Department

- Kyle Braatz: Typically Canadian Tribute Tour rider, president

- Alex Grey: Typically Canadian Tribute Tour rider

- Andrew Hopkins; Typically Canadian Tribute Tour rider

- Steve Coleman - Typically Canadian Tribute Tour rider.

They are “Typical Canadians” who have embarked on an amazing adventure to raise money and awareness for cancer research. They will be dedicating the next three months to highlighting the stories of everyday Canadians and their families who have inspired others with their courageous response to dealing with cancer. Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services, along with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, will be meeting these young men at the Highway 17 North city limits sign (approximately 2 p.m.), and escorting them to the city’s new Regional Emergency Services Complex, located on 65 Old Garden River Road. This evening, these four men will be escorted by the firefighters to the John Rhodes Arena to make an appearance at the Relay for Life, where they will make a presentation to a “Typical Canadian” who has been touched by the disease, and will pay tribute to brave and courageous individuals in hopes that Canadians will be inspired to get involved in the cancer community.

The goal of the Typical Canadian Group Tour, aligned with the Firefighters of Canada, the Canadian Cancer Society and Typical Canadians nation-wide, is to raise more than $720,000 for cancer care lodges, cancer research and cancer programs. Funds raised locally will be kept in Sault Ste. Marie.

Located at all four fire stations in Sault Ste. Marie are Typically Canadian $2 Toonie drop box’s, for the public to drop off small donations. The drop boxes will be left in the fire halls until the TCG reaches St. John’s, Newfoundland.

Larger donations can be made through the Typically Canadian Tour website. Join TCG and the Tribute Tour

You can submit an inspiring story or make online/mail donations through the TCG website.

The Canadian Cancer Society will be responsible for the distribution of tax receipts.
