************************* Algoma University announces appointment of university registrar

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON - (February 8) - Algoma University is pleased to announce the promotion of David Marasco to the position of university registrar at Algoma University.

A graduate of the University of Western Ontario, Marasco has worked in the office of the registrar at Algoma University for 10 years as associate registrar and most recently as acting registrar.

Over this time Marasco has been an integral part of several initiatives that have significantly contributed to the growth of the university, including the most recent 8.5 percent increase in student enrolment for the current academic year. As registrar, Marasco will ensure the integrity of the university's academic and student records, and make decisions related to academic records, policies, regulations, admissions, registration and institutional research.

The registrar is instrumental to establishing connections with other post-secondary institutions, developing educational partnerships, diploma-to-degree articulations, and other institutional program partnerships.

Together with the president and vice-president academic, Marasco will assist in new academic initiatives and curriculum development.

In his new role, Marasco will also direct international recruitment efforts and assist in Algoma University's 'Sault Program for English Language Learning' (SPELL) program. "I am very pleased to announce that David Marasco has been offered, and has accepted, the position of registrar at Algoma University", said Dr. Celia Ross, president of Algoma University. "David brings years of experience to this position and a tremendous commitment to academic excellence, student success, and staff relations."
