The E-M Ford, the oldest freighter on the Great Lakes, is heading to Purvis Marine in Sault Ste. Marie for scrapping, the Bay City Times reports today.
The 428-footer was first launched as the Presque Isle in 1898, before being rechristened the E-M Ford when it became a cement powder carrier in 1956.
The E-M Ford has spent the past 12 years docked in Carrollton, a suburb of Saginaw, Michigan.
A tug arrived today to tow the freighter to the Sault.
