July comes to an end with a couple maximum temperatures being set.

Over the month of July the average daytime high ended up near +24.5°C which is barely warmer than the July maximum of +24.2°C.

Morning lows were, on average, a couple degrees below normal this past month and that contributes to our overall monthly average temperature ending up about 0.5°C cooler than normal for July.

The bigger story is the drought between Sault Ste. Marie and Sudbury.

Surprisingly, Sault Ste. Marie airport actually received slightly higher than normal rainfall for July with 78.8mm.

This was thanks to only two heavy days of rain, whereas the rest of the month saw under 8mm spread over 29 days.

Many areas east of the city didn’t see those two heavy days of rain and will enter August very dry.

This weekend doesn’t pack much in the way of rainfall for those with brown lawns.

It also doesn’t pack much in the way of heat.

Unsettled weather over the province will continue to bring waves of clouds, gusty winds and scattered showers for the next several days.

Friday will see temperatures a few degrees below normal, struggling to reach +20°C.

Gusty west winds will blow during the afternoon making it feel a touch cooler.

Scattered clouds will roll across the region with the slight chance of an isolated sprinkle.

Saturday should see mainly sunny skies with temperatures a touch warmer – sneaking up into the low 20s.

Winds will continue to gust out of the west in the afternoon.

A mix of sun and cloud arrives Sunday with a chance of isolated showers and thunder.

If enough sunshine gets through the cloud layer then temperatures should climb to the mid-20s – which would be our best chance at normal temperatures this long weekend.

Monday brings back sunshine and the gusty northwest winds.

This will keep temperatures below normal and struggling again to reach +20°C.

The cooler than normal weather continues into early next week.
