Long weekend! Here's how city will operate on Victoria Day

No garbage or recycling collection Monday; transit and parabus also closed

Victoria Day Monday means a holiday for many people, but it also brings with it schedule changes and interruptions for municipal services. Following is a news release from the city on what to expect this weekend: 

The City of Sault Ste. Marie reminds citizens of the following service interruptions and schedule changes for the Victoria Day holiday on Monday, May 20.

 The following offices will be closed:

  • Bay Street Active Living Centre and Northern Community Centre 55+ programs
  • Cemetery office
  • City Landfill and Household Hazardous Waste Depot
  • Ermatinger Clergue National Historic Site
  • Fire Services Administrative office
  • GFL Memorial Gardens office and box office
  • Public Libraries
  • Public Works and Engineering office – 128 Sackville Road. For 24-hour emergency service requests, call 705-759-5201.
  • Ronald A. Irwin Civic Centre – 99 Foster Drive
  • Sault Transit main office

Garbage and Recycling Collection

There is no garbage, leaf, and yard waste or recycling pickup on Monday, May 20. The collection for the balance of the week will be one day late.

Leaf and Yard Waste is collected every second week on your scheduled garbage day. To view the Leaf and Yard Waste collection calendar, visit saultstemarie.ca/leafyardwaste.

The city’s landfill will be closed on Monday, May 20. Landfill operations will resume Tuesday to Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Household Hazardous Waste Depot is open Tuesday to Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

John Rhodes Community Centre Pool

  • Open Monday, May 20 from 11:15 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for Parent & Child/Lane Swim and from 1:15 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. for Public Swim.

Marina Facilities

  • Bellevue Marina – open daily from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. May 17 to June 30.

July 2 to September 4 open Monday to Thursday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday to Sunday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

  • Bondar Marina – open daily from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. May 26 to June 30.

July 2 to September 4 open Monday to Thursday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday to Sunday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

  • Bikes are available at the Bondar Marina during regular operating hours.

Seasonal boat launch passes are $70 and can be purchased online. Passes are also available during business hours at the fuel kiosk at Bellevue Marina, or the Community Development and Enterprise Services office at the Civic Centre. Daily launch dispenser machines accept coins, debit, and credit for a flat rate of $7. Download the Passport Parking mobile app and use zone 3759 for daily launch.

Transit Service

There will be no transit and parabus service on Monday, May 20. Regular service resumes on Tuesday, May 21. For transit information, call 705-759-5438 or email [email protected].
