************************** Forest fire situation update - East Fire Region

There were no new fires reported in the East Fire Region within the last 24 hours.

The forest fire hazard in the East Fire Region is moderate with pockets of high hazard. 

This hazard will continue through the long weekend and into next week.

Always remember to be FireSmart.

If you're planning a campfire this Labour Day long weekend, remember to pick a designated campfire pit if available or choose a safe site on bare rock or soil, keep the fire small, never leave it unattended and make sure it is completely extinguished before leaving the site.

Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources emergency support personnel and fire ranger crews have finished their work in Blue Mountain, Ontario where they assisted with storm damage clean up.

They are returning to their home bases.

This concludes storm recovery work that begin with the municipalities of Vaughan and Durham, Ontario.

Ontario continues to support the firefighting effort in British Columbia, sending additional fire personnel on September 2 and 3.

This brings the total staffing in British Columbia to 335.

Additional support personnel are scheduled to join the other Ontario resources in British Columbia on September 5.
