Yesterday, SooToday.com posted a letter from Sault MP Tony Martin.

Today, the Sault Ste. Marie Conservative Electoral Association responded by issuing the following news release.

************************* Here we go again: Martin tries to justify his job

With speculations of a possible election, and another term as an ineffectual federal representative, Mr. Martin once again is trying to defend his inability to get major funding for Sault Ste. Marie.

Mr. Martin list dates like statistics, skewed to one's preference.

However one can question if such “actual” meetings take place.

Take for example the July 21, 2009 joint federal/provincial funding announcement for the Invasive Species Research Centre.

Mr. Martin, known for shamelessly finding any issue and trying to take any credit, stated that he met with the minister of Natural Resources.

He may have written a memo like all members, but from discussion with the minister after our association’s round-table meeting with those in the natural resource sector, this was found to be false.

Mr. Martin is very good at writing letters and consulting with constituents, however he cannot sit at the table and have any success in bringing any funding for any special initiatives that have been so greatly needed by our community.

It has been such individuals as MPP David Orazietti and our local government that have put forward on a personal level with the assistance of the federal the provincial governments these special initiatives that have brought the funding for the citizens of our community.

As we have seen, Mr. Martin likes to write letters but obviously his efforts to produce for our community have been extremely disappointing.

Though Mr. Martin has convinced himself otherwise, the fact remains that he is ineffective.

Mr. Martin continually uses the sound bite that “his fingerprints are on every project."

Unfortunately, Mr. Martin presents the illusions of his of his work, based on his own delusions.

As much as Mr. Martin attempts to create a sense of self worth, the facts speak for themselves.

Mr. Martin has always been prepared to toe the party line of Jack Layton and continues to vote against every Conservative budget which is a denial of every funding announcement that has been brought to Sault Ste. Mare.

While Mr. Martin writes letters, our city officials have gone out and effectively met with the Conservative government which has resulted in the action we now see.

Now Mr. Martin and his party threaten an election this September which would affect the productive effects of stimulus funding through Canada’s Action Plan.

We could effortlessly debate Tony Martin’s tirade against the Conservative Government and we look forward to doing so during the next election.
