************************* Sault Ste. Marie Green Party announces candidate Luke Macmichael

SAULT STE. MARIE (September 10, 2008) - Sault Ste. Marie native Luke Macmichael will be the candidate for the Green Party in Sault Ste. Marie, said Ian McLarty, CEO of the Sault Ste. Marie Federal Green Party Association.

Luke Macmichael is currently a human resources representative of Essar Steel Algoma Inc. in Sault Ste. Marie, ON.

He worked the past three years as an IT professional at Essar after graduating from Queen’s University with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering.

Prior to this time he served as a full-time missionary on the island of Hokkaido, Japan for a period of two years.

All of these experiences have given him a strong passion for life and for helping to create a better world for his three young children to grow up in.

An environmentalist and renewable energy specialist at heart, Luke has spent countless personal hours researching the many issues and challenges of our day.

He believes the key to success is in promoting public policies that encourage individuals and groups to make decisions that help ensure a clean and sustainable future for all of us.

The key values and policies of the Green party match his feelings perfectly and he is very excited to be a part of forwarding their efforts as the candidate for Sault Ste. Marie.

He has been involved in many volunteer organizations including: Clean North, where he helped run the youth environmental program; OneChange, where he managed the local Project Porchlight effort to deliver 8,000 CFL bulbs to the Sault Ste. Marie area; and Katimavik, where he delivered presentations on environmental sustainability.

He has also spoken on environmental issues to many local high school classes and other public groups.

He finds the best way for good ideas to develop and spread is to take every opportunity to share and discuss them, whether it’s at a City Council focus group or in the lunch room at work.

Engaging people in these important conversations are what he loves most about the Green Party’s democratic values.

“Let’s all come together to build a sustainable society with rules and policies to ensure as much freedom and prosperity as possible for our generation and all those to follow!”
