Local firefighters bring out the 'Big Boot' (4 photos)

Local firefighters are out collecting money for Muscular Dystrophy until 8 p.m. today, look for the giant rubber boot

Sault Ste. Marie Professional Firefighters Association (SSPFA) unveiled their new Big Boot on Saturday as part of their annual spring 'Fill the Boot' muscular dystrophy charity drive.

The boot was custom made by a firefighter in London, Ontario and is 4 feet tall, 12 inches in diameter, and 26 inches long at the foot.

SSPFA are passing the boot around their four different collections stations until 8 p.m. this evening.

Look for the boot at Joe's No Frills, Rome's Independent Grocer, the Metro at Churchill Plaza, and the Tim Hortons drive thru at Great Northern Road and Second Line East.

Last year Sault Ste. Marie Professional Firefighters Association (SSPFA) spring 'Fill the Boot' drive raised $15,000.

(EDITOR'S NOTE: This story has been edited to indicate the Fill the Boot fundraising drive is undertaken by the Sault Ste. Marie Professional Firefighters Association rather than Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services)
