During a six day expedition in Killarney Provincial Park, outside of Sudbury, 16-year-old Cadet Bryce Vanderburg from Echo Bay will be putting to practice outdoor leadership and winter camping skills during the Army Cadet Regional Expedition.

This adventure-based learning experience is taking place between March 11 and 20, 2016.

Bryce is a cadet with 2310 Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps, and is one of only 14 cadets participating in this expedition. “I am looking forward to skiing during this expedition,” says Bryce.

The cadets take part in one and a half days of pre-trip planning before they head out on their adventure comprised of three days of ski touring, two days of snowshoeing, and one day of winter survival training.

Each cadet will be the team leader for one day during the expedition.

As the team leader, they will be responsible for planning the travel route, overseeing the daily routine activities (such as meals), and ensuring the well-being of their teammates.

This is part of the experiential learning that takes place within the Cadet Program.

The expedition program continues to support the sense of personal accomplishment that these cadets have achieved through their participation in the Cadet Program.

“Through the Cadet Program, I have had the opportunity to do a lot of travelling,” says Bryce.

Bryce attends Central Algoma Secondary School and likes to go fishing, four wheeling, and play sports.

Pictures and updates of Bryce and the team as they travel can be found on our Facebook Page.

The Cadet Program provides unique experiences to young people across Canada. This national youth program has over 50,000 members with a focus on physical fitness, leadership, and citizenship.
