Local broadcaster receives national award nomination

Yesterday, the powers that be at Canadian Music Week announced the 2014 nominees for the annual Canadian Music and Broadcast Industry Awards which will be hosted at Toronto's Kool Haus on Thursday, May 8.

Yesterday, the powers that be at Canadian Music Week announced the 2014 nominees for the annual Canadian Music and Broadcast Industry Awards which will be hosted at Toronto's Kool Haus on Thursday, May 8.

A number of Northern Ontario industry representatives are honoured in the vast list of nominees, including Sault Ste. Marie's Gary Creighton.

The programmer for Country 104.3 CJQM is nominated for Music Director of the Year: Small Market.

From Sudbury's KISS 105.3 CJMX, Hilary Welch is also nominated for Music Director of the Year: Small Market, and Michael Allard for Program Director of the Year: Small Market.

KISS 105.3 CJMX in Sudbury and KISS 99.3 CKGB in Timmins both received nominations for Station of the Year: Small Market.

In the Live Touring category, North Bay's Capitol Centre and Thunder Bay's Community Auditorium both received nods for Performing Arts Centre of the Year (under 1,500 capacity).

The nation-wide Music and Broadcast Industry Awards recognize "individuals and organizations that have made a significant contribution to the Canadian music industry in the past year."

The May 8 awards ceremony is hosted by Tom Green and will include performances by Nikki Yanofsky and Tom Cochrane, as well as special guest appearances from Bruce Cockburn, Canadian Broadcast Industry Hall of Fame Inductee Ian Greenberg, founder of Attic Records Alexander Mair, and Allan Waters Broadcast Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Paul Ski.
