FOREST FIRE UPDATE
************************* East Fire Region situation update
Monday July 30th, 2007 – 0900hrs
HIGHLIGHTS:
• seven new; 16 active fires
• 303 fires; 6,736 hectares to date since April 1.
DETAILS:
There have been seven new fires in the last 24 hours, two in the Sudbury District that are now out, four lightning fires in the Sault Ste. Marie District that are also now out and Parry Sound 25. a 0.1-hectare fire that is not yet under control.
There are currently 15 other active fires.
Parry Sound 24 is a 0.1-hectare fire that is under control, Cochrane 28 is a 35-hectare fire that is under control and Sudbury 75; a 56-hectare fire that is being held, & Sudbury 76; a 3.0-hectare fire that is under control, are two fires in the Wikwemikong Reserve on Manitoulin Island.
The remainder of the active fires are in the far north/northwest portion of the East Fire Region
Residual clouds with isolated showers are expected over the northeast; otherwise mainly sunny skies are expected.
The winds will be generally light and the temperatures will remain above normal.
The Ministry of Natural Resources reminds the public that before burning please check with your municipality to be advised of their burning regulations.
Never leave your fire unattended and make sure it is completely extinguished before leaving.
