A day before the provincial election campaign is set to begin, the Liberals appear to have a candidate for Sault Ste. Marie.

Although no formal announcement has been issued, a candidate bio page for Jaclynne Hamel has appeared on the party's website this morning.

It is unclear whether a nomination meeting took place.

The page describes Hamel as an Algoma University grad, who also studied public relations at Sault College.

"As someone raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Jaclynne understands the incredible potential that the North possesses, but also the unique challenges that it faces. She wants to see increased economic development in the region, so that Sault Ste. Marie gets its fair share," the bio says.

Hamel is up against incumbent PC MPP Ross Romano, NDP candidate Michele McCleave-Kennedy, the Green Party's Kara Flannigan.

The election is set for June 7.
