************************* Driver charged with exceeding 50 km/hr over the speed limit
Members of the Superior East OPP Detachment (Chapleau – Hornepayne – Wawa – White River) continue to patrol Highways and Roadways in the area to ensure that those driving on them do so in a manner that is within the rules of the road that are set out in the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.
On the 8th of April, a Superior East OPP (Wawa) officer was conducting radar patrol on Highway 17 in Hunt Township.
At approximately 7 p.m. a single northbound 2004 Lexus automobile was locked on radar at a high rate of speed.
The vehicle was stopped and the driver was charged
Jeffery S. Duperron (age 24) of Bethany Lane, Rochester Township, Ontario is charged with racing a motor vehicle and speeding 141 km/hr in a posted 90km/hr zone.
He appears in court later this spring.
Those people who are charged under Section 172 of the Highway Traffic Act with driving at a rate of speed 50 km/hr over the posted speed limit will have:
- Their licence immediately suspended for seven days.
- The vehicle will be impounded immediately for seven days, even if the driver is not the owner or the vehicle is rented or borrowed.
- The driver is responsible for the towing and storage costs.
- Those convicted of Section 172 of Highway Traffic Act are liable to a fine of not less than $2,000, the possibility of a jail sentence of not more than six months as well a further driver’s licence suspension.
