SooToday received the following letter to the editor from reader Lester Hopkins in response to our story, Plume of smoke seen coming from plant (Updated with Algoma response).

I am writing in regards to the article regarding the orange smoke from the steel plant.

These orange clouds are far from unusual. They are a common sight for us residents who live next door to the steel plant.

These orange clouds often settle around our homes. The air smells and it makes it hard to breathe.

I know that these emissions are part of the process.

However, couldn't the steel plant release these emissions when there is sufficient wind to quickly disperse it?
