Learn more about our St. Marys River at 12th Environmental Summit

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI - Lake Superior State University invites the community to celebrate our St. Marys River during the 12th annual Environmental Summit on March 16 at the LSSU Walker Cisler Center.

This year’s event, with a theme of Connecting Science to the Community, is open from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and features a room dedicated to children, including hands-on activities and arts and crafts. People are welcome to drop in any time.

The event is sponsored by the Binational Public Advisory Council for the St. Marys River Area of Concern and LSSU.

Local groups will have displays and informational pamphlets of how they work toward conserving and sustaining the area and improving environmental quality of the river.

“Residents of both Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan and Ontario are highly encouraged to attend and see how local groups and the science community are working toward conserving and protecting the St. Marys River and to learn effective ways to deliver conservation messages,” said LSSU Biology professor Greg Zimmerman, who noted that a panel discussion with conservation scientists will take place from 1-3 p.m.

BPAC is the stakeholders’ voice for the St. Marys River Area of Concern.

Members representing Michigan and Ontario advocate for and advise the resource management agencies about meeting the objectives of the Remedial Action Plan for restoring the river ecosystem.
