On cloud 6/49: Largest Canadian jackpot in history could be won Saturday

TORONTO - The Lotto 6/49 jackpot has climbed to record heights.

The Saturday, April 13 jackpot draw will be an estimated $55 million, the largest jackpot in Canadian lottery history.

“After thirty years, Lotto 6/49 is still an exciting game. We’re thrilled to offer players the largest estimated jackpot in the game’s history,” said Wendy Montgomery, vice-president of marketing and sales at Ontario Lottery and Gaming.

The current record jackpot is $54.3 million from October 2005 which was won with a single ticket sold in Western Canada and claimed by a group.

Players can purchase a ticket at any OLG authorized retailers across the province until 9 p.m. on Saturday night.

For mobile friendly access to winning numbers and jackpot alerts, players can visit m.olg.ca or text the word Lotto to 25852 for instant updates sent right to your phone.

Ontario lottery players received $1.7 billion in prizes in the 2011/12 fiscal year.

OLG is a provincial agency responsible for province-wide lottery games and gaming facilities.

Since 1975, OLG lotteries, casinos, slots, and resort casinos have generated more than $36 billion for the benefit of the Province of Ontario.

Proceeds from OLG's operations help support Ontario's hospitals, amateur sport through the Quest for Gold program, recreational and cultural activities, communities, provincial priority programs such as health care and education, and local and provincial charities.
