Labour Council announces City Council endorsements

SAULT STE. MARIE AND DISTRICT LABOUR COUNCIL

****************************** The SSMDLC has endorsed the following candidates:

Mayor - Debbie Amaroso

Ward 1 - Steve Butland

Ward 2 - Terry Sheehan

Ward 3 - Pat Mick

Ward 5 - Frank Fata

Ward 6 - Jeff Arbus, Joe Krmpotich, Andy Anich and Tony Mancusso all submitted requests for endorsement. We would be proud to work with any of these individuals.

The process of identifying and selecting these candidates for endorsement started in October of 2009.

We asked the affiliates to Labour Council to identify labour-friendly candidates.

We used the City of Sault Ste. Marie website to identify the list of nominated candidates.

We sent out the applications for endorsement, electronically, to all candidates that indicated that they were running.

This was done on August 23 and again on September 8 by 2 p.m. to those that had filed since the 23rd of August.

There were two candidates that indicated that they could not open the word document that I sent them, Mr. Headrick and Mr. Schinners.

Labour Council has accepted the constructive criticism put forward by Mr. Headrick in his letter to the editor and will improve our process in the future.

Since we did not receive a response, we were unable to assess their positions.

To all those candidates that did not have their nominations in by September 8 at 2 p.m., you did not have an opportunity to respond to the application.

We are hopeful that you would support the issues that are important to working families.

Good luck to all candidates and I thank you for putting your names forward to represent the citizens of Sault Ste. Marie.
