CITY POLICE

NEWS RELEASE

******************** Shortly after 1:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon officers from Patrol Services and Traffic Services and personnel from the Sault Fire Services attended at the intersection of East Street and Bay Street for a motor vehicle collision involving two cars.

A car operated by 68-year-old Virginia Gulyas of 27 Euclid Road was travelling eastbound on Bay Street.

It is alleged that a car operated by 28-year-old Kyle Campbell of Rupert Acres was travelling southbound on East Street and failed to stop for the red light.

The two vehicles collided in the intersection.

Mrs. Gulyas and an adult male passenger from her vehicle were taken to Sault Area Hospital by ambulance for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The Campbell vehicle was severely damaged; the Gulyas vehicle received moderate damages.

Mr. Campbell has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario with one count of red light - fail to stop. ******************* The following was found yesterday in our SooToday.com e-mail inbox:

In your "Fiery Collision on Bay Street" you mention, "An occupant of the Ford was taken to hospital as Sault Ste. Marie Police and Fire services worked to document and clear the scene."

How was the patient taken to the hospital?

I'd prefer that you gave some credit once in a while to the hardworking paramedics (not ambulance drivers) of the Soo.

Most articles seem to include that Soo Fire and Soo Police attended the scene, one patient transported to the hospital.

Please think about providing some credit to the paramedics, as we deserve some recognition as well.

Thanks.
