The local production of the Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning rock musical marks the directorial debut for the Sault's own Adam Proulx, who's currently studying theatre and business at the University of Waterloo.

Based on Giacomo Puccini's La bohème, Rent depicts the hardship of a group of musicians and artists in New York's lower east side as they struggle with poverty and addiction under the shadow of an AIDS epidemic.

Under the musical direction of Sue Barber, the Sault Musical Comedy Guild's production of Rent also features Cameron Aitken as Angel, Tom Peer as Benny, Sam Boileau as Collins, James Luchetti as Mark, Tania Castellani as Mimi, and Dillan Chiblow as Roger.

Rent opens to the public this evening at the Kiwanis Community Theatre Centre, and runs through Saturday, November 28.

Curtain time is 8 p.m.

For ticket information, call the Theatre Centre Box Office located in the Station Mall at (705) 945-7299.
