King Street gets flattened (3 photos)

The former home of Sault Ste. Marie's Moose Lodge was reduced to rubble on Monday, the latest in a series of building demolitions on King Street.

10 King St., most recently occupied by D. S. Urso Surveying Ltd., was bulldozed to provide parking for Queenstown Drug Mart at 302 Queen St. E.

The Loyal Order of Moose met there starting around 1950.

Before that, the structure was a Canadian Foresters' Hall for about a decade.

Two other adjacent buildings – All Seasons Sportswear at 12 King St. and a residence at 14 King – were recently levelled to allow parking for the new neighbourhood drug store.

Almost three years before that, the King Street Flea Market up the street at 30 King was also demolished for parking purposes.
