A report distributed earlier today by many national media outlets indicating that Canadian soldiers had been kidnapped in Afghanistan has been discounted.

The office of Prime Minister Stephen Harper says that a head count indicates that all Canadian and coalition personnel in the country are safe.

The Arab TV channel Al-Jazeera and Reuters news agency quoted Taliban sources as indicating they had abducted an undisclosed number of Canadian soldiers.
