Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 17-year-old male youth at approximately 3:48 a.m. this morning and charged him with two counts of break and enter into a dwelling, two counts of theft, two counts of trespassing at night and one count of possession of property obtained by crime.

At around 3 a.m. this morning, officers received a call from a resident on Hood Street reporting that someone had just broken into the front porch of their residence and was attempting to get in the back door but fled when they let their dogs out.

Patrol officers and the canine unit responded, a track commenced and officers were able to locate the suspect a short time later behind a residence on Wardell Avenue.

Officers received a call a short time later from a resident on McQueen Road who had just awakened and discovered that a residence had been broken into as well and some liquor and food had been stolen.

Officers continued the investigation and discovered that the accused [allegedly] broke into the McQueen Road home as well and had also gone through some vehicles in that area.

The accused is currently in custody and the investigation is ongoing.

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 20-year-old Jeremy Miller of 312 Gillies Street yesterday afternoon and charged him with one count of theft under $5,000, one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance and one count of breach of probation.

It is alleged that on the 17th of November at approximately 12:20 p.m., the accused attended at Zellers in the Station Mall, stole a jacket and fled the store.

The accused was quickly apprehended by store security and police on Bruce Street.

He is to appear in bail court this morning.
