KEN WALKER CONSERVATIVE CANDIDATE

******************** Ken Walker stands up for Jean Chretien Asked by some people why an election is necessary this time of year, local conservative candidate Ken Walker replied: "The Liberals had an opportunity to make their minority government work. They promised reform, but delivered Gomery instead. While not excusing whatever role former Prime Minister Jean Chretien played in the whole sordid affair, it just seems too strange that Mr. Chretien is expected to shoulder the entire blame for the sponsorship scandal while Paul Martin is completely vindicated. After all, the sponsorship scandal took place in Quebec at a time when Paul Martin was the Liberal government's Quebec lieutenant. And it involved millions of dollars going missing during Paul Martin's tenure as Minister of Finance." "Although I seldom agreed with the former prime minister's policies," Walker continued, "I applaud Mr. Chretien for his decisive courage in standing up to Paul Martin's bullying. I only wish other Liberals had the same courage. This is why we need an election at this time. A Conservative government will represent the interests of all Canadians - from waitresses to professionals, and skilled and unskilled labourers to small businesspeople - and not just the interests of advertising firms in Paul Martin's hometown." *******************
