A charge of first-degree murder against Keegan Matthew Periard was dismissed this morning, but the 20 year-old Saultite was ordered to stand trial for second-degree murder.
The decision was made at the end of Periard's preliminary hearing in the case of Joseph Reed, 58, who was found dead on January 6 at his residence at 101 Chapple Avenue.
A court-ordered ban on publication prevents us from disclosing evidence presented during the two-day hearing. In earlier statements, police said they believe Periard and Reed were known to each other and that an edged weapon was used in the homicide.
