******************** Mighty Ducks sign 2004 second-round pick Jordan Smith
ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed defenseman Jordan Smith to a three-year entry level contract.
Per club policy, no financial terms of the deal were disclosed. "Jordan Smith is a hard-nosed defenseman, who is ready to make the step into professional hockey," said executive vice president/general manager Brian Burke. "With his character and work ethic, we expect big things from him in the future."
Smith, a Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario native, played for his hometown team in the Ontario Hockey League in 2004-2005.
He recorded 5-27=32 points with 126 PIM in 64 games, adding 1-4=5 points in seven postseason games.
He led team defensemen in scoring during the regular season, earning a spot as an OHL Second-Team All-Star for his efforts.
He increased his point production in each of his four OHL seasons and served as an alternate captain for Sault Ste. Marie in 2004-2005.
Over his four years in the OHL, Smith earned 13-56=68 points in 211 career regular season games.
The 6-1, 215-pound Smith was drafted by the Mighty Ducks in the second round (39th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
