No, they didn't lower the age of majority last night at Loplop Lounge and Gallery.

Instead, the downtown establishment put on an art show of work for kids and opened its doors to pint-sized patrons of crayon renderings.

From 7 to 9 p.m., yummy snacks were served to a very special clientele as Krisanne Collins (shown with her son Jasper and Grace McCormack) presented the illustrations that will be in her new book.

The show and book are called Yummy A to Z and they feature delightfully bright and vivid drawings in crayon thinned with mineral spirits.

It's no small wonder that the drawings feature so many anthropomorphized foods, from apple pies to creamy custards, caught in the act of fanciful alphabet oriented activities.

Collins says she got the idea for the book while pregnant for her first child, Jasper.

For any woman who has ever suffered a food craving during pregnancy, it's pretty easy to understand how sweet desserts could seem to take on a life of their own.

"Of course I couldn't work with the mineral spirits while pregnant or nursing, so I had to put it on hold for a bit over the past four years," said Collins.

But now she is finished, ready to publish and taking advance orders.
