New SAH celebrates its first anniversary

March 6, 2012 – Sault Area Hospital (SAH) celebrated the first anniversary of the move to our new facility on Great Northern Road today.

The occasion was marked by a “social” in the new hospital’s main lobby with the SAH CEO, board chair and members of the board and senior management team serving cake to staff, physicians, volunteers and members of the public in attendance.

“This year has been extraordinarily busy for everyone at SAH as we settled into our amazing new site,” stated SAH board chair Elaine Pitcher. “On behalf of the entire board of directors, I want to congratulate and thank every member of the SAH family for their dedication and resilience during a time of unprecedented change and to also acknowledge our patients, their loved ones and our health care partners for their understanding and patience during this period of transition.”

“This past year has been a remarkable one in the history of our hospital and our community. As anticipated, a move of this size presented logistical, technical and process challenges as everyone adapted to their new environments,” added Ron Gagnon, SAH president and CEO. “We still have some work to do but have come a long way in overcoming those challenges. At the same time, we have been able to expand some of our services, add new services like radiation therapy, achieve improved quality of care results and a balanced financial position. I can’t say enough about our people and their commitment to delivering quality care and services to the patients and the families that we serve.”

Today also marked the first anniversary of the Plummer site as the SAH Transitional Care facility caring for those awaiting accommodations elsewhere in the community.

“The tremendous success we’ve achieved in reducing congestion at the main site, eliminating patients in hallways, sunrooms  and public areas, could not have been achieved without the dedication of staff and physicians at the Plummer who care for our patients there,” explained Gagnon. “By continuing with their excellent work, everyone at our other locations in the community and at our satellites in Richards Landing and Thessalon should also rightly be applauded for helping us get to where we are today.”
