**************************** Italian ambassador to visit Marconi Club to discuss 100th anniversary

SAULT STE. MARIE – The Italian Ambassador to Canada, Andrea Meloni, will be in Sault Ste. Marie Dec. 10 at the invitation of Sault MP Tony Martin to meet with Marconi Club officials as they plan their 100th anniversary for 2012.

“It will be a quick visit this time due to his busy schedule but the ambassador has told me he recognizes the strong Italian communities in the Sault and Northern Ontario and wants to return to the city,” Martin said.

“Our Italian community is well known for being community minded, hard working and contributing to help make the Sault and Canada a better place for everyone. They are rightly proud of their heritage and traditions. They have made an enormous contribution to the community, our industries and the economy.”

Martin said the Marconi Club is a cornerstone for the life of the area’s Italian community and others as well.

“I am looking forward to participating in the 100 anniversary celebrations happening in 2012,” Martin said. “The Marconi Club is pleased to have this opportunity to share these plans with the Ambassador and to seek further support in these efforts.”

Ambassador Meloni’s recent diplomatic posts include being consul general in Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1996-1999, permanent representative of Italy to the Political and Security Committee of the European Union, 2006-2010.

He began his Ottawa posting in January 2010.
