Despite local rumours people were being told not to head south and cross the Canada-U.S. border at the International Bridge unless they have important business (because of COVID-19 concerns), it’s business as usual for now for both U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the International Bridge.

“We are good to go,” said Kris Grogan, U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesperson, speaking to SooToday Thursday.

“As of right now it’s disinformation in the public eye. It is a rumour. It is not fact,” said Peter Petainen, International Bridge Administration (IBA) general manager.

“The president (Donald Trump) did put out a notice with regard to restrictions on individuals who have travelled to Europe...but that would be entirely up to U.S. Customs how they would apply that, but as far as the border itself is concerned, there is no closure.”

“They are not restricting anybody from moving from the U.S. to Canada, we are not telling people to not come across to the U.S. or vice versa as of right now,” Petainen said.
