The aboriginal and sports communities are mourning the passing of Roseanne Allen, who died in the Sault on Saturday at the age of 55. The Indian Friendship Centre employee was among the first aboriginal women to represent Canada at the Winter Olympics, participating as a cross-country skier in the 1972 games in Japan.

She was the anchor for the three-person women's five-kilometre relay team.

Her twin sisters Shirley and Sharon Firth were also on Canada's Olympic team.

Allen moved to the Sault in 1988.

The cause of death is unknown and funeral arrangements are not available at this time.
