************************* Fireworks over the St. Ignace harbor every Saturday

ST. IGNACE, MI - A sky ablaze in color accompanied by a symphony of oohs and ahhs need not be as fleeting as the Fourth of July finale when St. Ignace, the Magical Harbor, features fireworks and fun every weekend throughout the summer.

Why wait for an annual pyrotechnic display when every summer Saturday is cause for loading up the lawn chairs, corralling the kids, and heading to the waterfront?

No longer must we lament the end of the display on July 4, when that’s just the start of the St. Ignace fireworks schedule.

What’s more, this little slice of Americana is economical (or more accurately, free) and family friendly.

But more than just fireworks, St. Ignace has perfected the art of the summer weekend.

A weekly farmer’s market, art festival, car shows, and the Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Walk result in weekends that are chock full of “Festivals and Fireworks” - the aptly-named summer event schedule.

“The magic of St. Ignace lies in how some visitors are thoroughly entertained with festivals and fireworks and others are completely content enjoying a lazy day watching sailboats on the harbor. Our visitors enjoy the perfect vacation, no matter how they define it, and we simply provide the canvas and the tools,” said Lynne Piippo, director of the St. Ignace Visitors Bureau.

The community’s schedule of events includes a delightful mix of long-held celebrations and first-time events.

Events like the St. Ignace Fish Feast, [held] on July 25, with live music, food and beverage tents, and, of course, a variety of fish dishes to sample.

Or if you’d rather take to the water yourself, weekly vesper cruises, featuring spiritual music and meditation, or lighthouse cruises for a glimpse of the most romantic aspect of maritime navigation.

In St. Ignace, some events are widely known and celebrated, like the Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Walk, when thousands converge upon the Mighty Mac to walk its five-mile span.

Original and unique artistic creations are exhibited at Arts and Crafts Dockside, held Saturday, September 5.

With booths as far as the eye can see and a selection of entertainers situated throughout, the entire experience is made even more enchanting by the waterfront venue.

Michiganders in search of a getaway with the limited time or budget will discover St. Ignace as the perfect “stay-cation” in Northern Michigan, where Upper Peninsula earthiness meets the picturesque Straits of Mackinac.

Chris Shepler, chairman of Festivals and Fireworks, may spend his days on the sparkling-blue waters between St. Ignace and Mackinac Island, but his heart belongs to Saturday nights in the summer.

“I cannot imagine a better way to spend a Saturday evening than watching a magnificent light show over the harbor,” he says.
