Impaired driving charge laid after snowmobile crash

NEWS RELEASE

************************* Twenty-one-year-old Rheal Daoust of 58 Algoma Avenue was arrested on the 3rd of January at 11:58 p.m. on Goetz Avenue and charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of consuming over the legal limit.

On the 3rd of January around 11:44 p.m., City Police received a call regarding a snow machine collision at the corner of Goetz Avenue and Bonney Street.

It is alleged that the accused had been operating his snow machine at a high rate of speed southbound on Goetz Avenue when he lost control, crashed into a fence and was thrown from the machine.

The accused was treated for non-life-threatening injuries by paramedics at the scene.

Officers discovered the accused to be under the influence of alcohol and he was subsequently arrested.

The snow machine and fence were moderately damaged as a result of the collision.

The accused is to appear in court on the 8th of February.
