Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff indicated today that his party plans to table a non-confidence motion in the federal government.

“Liberals can no longer support a government that misleads Canadians, breaks the rules and weakens our democracy,” said Ignatieff. “The Conservative government has misled the House and all Canadians by hiding the details of their core spending priorities from Parliament – and it means we can’t trust their budget numbers.”

Ignatieff accused the Harper government of being in contempt of Parliament, claiming the Conservatives misled MPs in matters of corporate tax cuts, crime legislation and the purchase of F-35 fighter jets.

If a motion of non-confidence is passed this Friday, the current government would be dissolved and an election date set for May 2.
