I-75 and Highway 69 both blocked

But we want you to know that the two main highways you use to go south from here, I-75 and Ontario's Highway 69, are both blocked this morning.

Local 4 Television in Detroit is reporting that a stretch of the I-75 is expetced to remain closed until at least noon today because of debris falling from the East Grand Boulevard overpass.

Crews are currently inspecting the problem and clearing the freeway.

"It is not known what caused the falling debris," the television station says.

(EDITOR'S NOTE: Since this article appeared, we've been advised that the southbound lanes of the I-75 at this location are now open.

Here's the latest on the Highway 69 situation, as received from the Ontario Provincial Police:

************************ Highway 69 remains closed – change in detour

(Sudbury, Ontario) As a result of a fatal motor vehicle collision last evening approximately two kilometres south of Highway 64 on Highway 69, the highway remains closed.

Traffic was re-rerouted through Highway 607 to Highway 64 and back to Highway 69, however, the road has deteriorated and therefore has been closed.

MTO crews are en-route to repair the highway.

Highway 69 traffic is encouraged to travel through Highway 11 North Bay, as an alternate route.

Light vehicle traffic already NB on 69 may take Highway 522 to Highway 11.

It is anticipated that the highway will be closed until at least 1200 noon.

(EDITOR'S NOTE: The OPP has since told us the closure is expected to last until mid-afternoon.

OPP will update as information is available.

No other details are being released at this time.

(Sudbury, Ontario) - Highway 69 is completely closed in both directions due to the investigation of a fatal motor vehicle collision.

Northbound traffic is being rerouted at Barrie to Highway 124 to Highway 11 @ Sundridge and onto North Bay.

Only existing light traffic is allowed on Highway 64 and Highway 522.

Heavy traffic will be denied access to Highway 64 and Highway 522.
