SooToday editorialist Craig Huckerby, a former weatherman and TV news producer, is featured in Thursday's National Post.

Under the headline "Upstart broadcaster makes bid for N. Ontario station," the Post describes Huckerby's bid to break up the ownership of the Soo's CTV and CBC affiliates and create a new local station supported by advertising and possibly memberships.

As SooToday.com reported last Saturday, Huckerby's Algoma Broadcast Group has applied to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission to broadcast 5-1/2 hours of daily news, sports and current affairs programs.

The Post article appeared on a bad day for MCTV -- the cut-to-the-bones station was forced to completely cancel its suppertime newscast because of what a recorded message said was "a power outage in Espanola."

Instead of its Northern programming, the station offered only a Toronto feed.
