************************* Road closure finds two with dope
HEYDEN, ON - An officer with the OPP Traffic and Marine Unit found two local men with lots of drugs at a detour this weekend.
On Saturday at about 12:30 p.m. officers were at a road closure checkpoint due to the heavy rain on Highway 17 in Heyden.
A vehicle pulled up to the officer and he immediately noticed obvious indicators of what he suspected to be an illegal substance in the vehicle.
One of the signs was suspected marijuana leaves on the lap of the driver.
Both occupants of the vehicle were arrested and a search of the vehicle turned up about three pounds of suspected marijuana in the vehicle.
As a result of this investigation, 47-year-old Victor Duffield and 55-year-old Denis Cormier, both of 52 London Street in Sault Ste. Marie faces two charges.
The pair have been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a controlled substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substance Act.
They will appear in court on November 26.
Police estimate the drug to be worth about $27,000.
