Sault MPP David Orazietti was among the local media and dignitaries who showed up to meet the Sault's hottest celebrity.

The as yet un-named and mysterious Buskerdude made his timely appearance this morning along with the line up of buskers that will be entertaining on Queen Street this weekend.

It's finally time for the eighth annual Buskerfest.

Festival organizers have borrowed a few acts from the Sault, brought in some new shows and brought back some old favourites, including one from the very first Buskerfest eight years ago.

Jeff Hill - Magic that Rocks! hails from Toronto and has wowed audiences all over the world with his wickedly intense mix of classic rock, classic showmanship and novel uses of straight jackets, torches, razor blades and handcuffs.

He was the first performer to take the pitch during the first Sault Ste. Marie Buskerfest in 2004 and, in his delightfully twisted ways, he took it places few in the Sault had ever imagined existed.

A new act to be sure and catch on Queen Street between East and Brock Streets this weekend is the modern comic Vaudevillian act Daredevil Chicken Club from Sonoma California.

Jonathan Taylor and Anne Goldmann have been entertained audiences in over 34 countries since 2001 in their search for the line between reality and absurdity, comedy and taboo.

Their innovative performances combine comedy with absurd characters and circus skills to amuse and delight audiences while challenging and pushing the medium of live performance.

Buskerfest 2011 organizers have borrowed local talents Hiccup the Clown and Marvellous Marvin the magician to rove among the crowds and entertain where ever the opportunity arises.

They'll also be hosting the lovely ladies of the local burlesque ensemble the Salty Mollies at the cabaret in Loplops Lounge and Gallery on Saturday evening.

This is an adults only event and tickets to the show are selling fast.

It features performances from the visiting buskers, music from Will Gillespie and the Romance and the Salty Mollies.

Queen Street, from East to Brock Streets, closes today at 4 p.m. and performances run from 5 to 11 p.m.

Queen Street merchants will be open as usual during that time.

On Saturday performances run on Queen Street from noon to 11 p.m.

Buskerfest Cabaret is due to begin at 11 p.m. in Loplops.

On Sunday performances continue from noon to 6 p.m.

Food and beverages will be for sale at the event throughout the weekend and there are plenty of activities offered for the whole family to enjoy.

Buskerfest 2011 organizers remind folks to get their entries in to name the 'Buskerdude' soon so they can be eligible to win a whack of nifty things and the Buskerdude can be called something besides, 'Hey you, sexy-guy-in-the-pointy-shoes!'.

Preferably the new name will fit better on a name tag.
