Hospitalizations up by one, active COVID case count drops slightly: APH

Algoma Public Health is reporting a slight drop in active COVID-19 cases in the Algoma region whhile the number of hospitalizations rose by one.

APH is reporting 15 hospitalizations in the region in its latest COVID report though the number of patients admitted for COVID-19 related reasons dropped by one.

The number of ICU patients in Algoma with confirmed COVID-19 is five, which remains unchanged from Tuesday's report. The number of ICU patients admitted for COVID-19 related reasons (three) also remained the same. 

The active case count is down by five from Tuesday's report to 371. 

The number of resolved cases in the region stands at 5,560, which is up by 41 in Wednesday's report while the number of new confirmed cases rose by 36 to a total of 5,931.

Of the new confirmed cases in Algoma, 3,727 have been confirmed since Jan. 1, 2022.

 

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
