The number of hospitalized patients with confirmed COVID-19 rose by six today in the latest report from Algoma Public Health.
There are currently 27 patients with COVID in Algoma area hospitals. The number of patients admitted for COVID-related reasons also rose today and is up by two to five.
While the number of ICU patients admitted for COVID-related reasons remained steady at one, the number of ICU patients with confirmed COVID-19 is down by one today to four.
APH is also reporting a drop in active cases today. The number of active cases is 184, which is down by 25 from Thursday.
Today's report includes 25 new confirmed cases in the region, bringing the total number of cases to 6,101 since the beginning of 2022 and 8,305 since the start of the pandemic.
The health unit is reporting 50 newly-resolved cases in the region - for a total of 8,121 since the start of the pandemic.
Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
