Hospitalizations up, as are active COVID-19 cases: APH

The number of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 is up by four in the latest update from Algoma Public Health.

The number of patients admitted for COVID-related reasons rose by one as well on Thursday.

APH's latest update shows that the number of ICU patients with confirmed COVID-19 is down by one from Wednesday's update.

The number of active cases in Algoma rose by 34 in Thursday's update to a total of 437 and there are an additional six active cases that are non-Algoma residents who are temporarily in the region, which is an increase from none on Wednesday.

The number of confirmed cases in Algoma is up by 73 to a total of 4,157 in 2022 and 6,361 overall since the beginning of the pandemic.

The number of resolve cases rose by 39 to a total of 5,924.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
