Hospitalizations up, active COVID cases down slightly in latest APH update

Algoma Public Health is reporting four new hospitalized patients with confirmed COVID-19 today.

The new hospitalizations brings the total to 32 as of Thursday afternoon.

The number of patients admitted for COVID-related reasons remains steady at three today, unchanged from Wednesday while the number of ICU patients admitted for COVID-related reasons also did not change from yesterday and is zero.

APH is reporting that the number of ICU patients with confirmed COVID-19 is down by one today to three.

The active case total in the Algoma region is currently 258, which is down by three from yesterday as APH is reporting 25 newly-confirmed cases in the region today - for a total of 5,932 since the beginning of 2022 and 8,136 since the start of the pandemic - and 28 newly-resolved cases.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
